Dental Newsflash

One of the most frustrating things I see in my office is a mouth with rampant decay caused by dental erosion, especially in those that are young.  I know unless there is a change in life-style and new habits are formed, it will be a continual concern for a life-time.  The unfortunate thing is that the destruction I see in the majority of mouths like this could have been prevented.

If minor esthetic corrections are what you need, the material of choice most often is a bonded composite resin. Bonding is done by adhering tooth-colored filling materials (composite resins) to the underlying existing tooth structure. It is possible to correct gaps, crooked, stained or uneven teeth with bonding, but it should be limited to minor esthetic concerns. A beautiful smile can be created by utilizing the bonding materials to cover the entire outside surface of a tooth, changing its color and shape - but it has its limitations. Larger applications of bonding are more prone to chip and stain than porcelain veneers, but beautiful, natural results can be obtained for filling unsightly spaces between teeth as well as restoring small broken and chipped areas that are in need of repair.
